Engineering & Certification for Truck & Trailer Builds

TTF Industries provides integrated engineering and certification support for the truck bodies, custom towbars, car carriers and tiny home trailers we design and manufacture in Melbourne. By considering the engineering requirements from the start, the structure, mounting, chassis, towing system and final vehicle or trailer configuration can be developed as one coordinated package. Depending on the project, this can include 3D CAD, structural calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), axle and load assessment, VSB6 / VASS certification, ADR compliance and trailer approval support.

Engineering Integrated with the Build

Engineering is incorporated into the build process rather than treated as a separate final step. TTF can develop the design around the actual truck, chassis, body, coupling, trailer configuration and intended payload before fabrication begins. This is particularly useful where a project involves custom body mounting, chassis extensions, non-standard towbar crossmembers, specialised trailer layouts or other equipment that needs to be considered as part of the complete vehicle.

3D CAD & Design

TTF uses 3D CAD to develop custom truck and trailer equipment before fabrication. This allows the final layout, clearances and interfaces to be checked around the vehicle and intended application.
Design work can include:
  • Truck body, tray and subframe layouts
  • Truck chassis extensions and mounting arrangements
  • Custom towbar crossmembers, coupling mounts and rear steps
  • Car carrier truck trays, trailers and semi-trailer layouts
  • Tiny home trailer chassis and bolt-on building platforms
  • Loading ramps, storage, equipment clearances and fabrication details

Structural Assessment & FEA

Where required, structural assessment can include engineering calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) to assess the strength and load paths within custom components and assemblies. This can be applied to trailer frames, truck subframes, body mountings, towbar crossmembers, chassis modifications, brackets, connections and other load-carrying structures. Completing this work during the design stage allows required changes to be incorporated before fabrication and provides supporting engineering evidence where certification is required.

VSB6 / VASS Certification

For applicable heavy vehicle modifications, TTF can incorporate the relevant VSB6 and VASS requirements into the build. This can include modifications associated with truck body installation, chassis alterations or extensions, and custom towbar or coupling installations. Where certification is required, the design, fabrication and completed modification can be assessed and documented as part of the project delivery.

Trailer Approval, ROVER & RAV

For new trailers, including tiny home trailers and car carrier trailers, TTF can manage the engineering and compliance information required for the applicable Australian Design Rules and the relevant Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV) approval pathway. Where required, approval applications and supporting documentation can be managed through ROVER as part of delivering the completed trailer.

Axle Loads, Coupling Loads & Vehicle Configuration

The final vehicle or trailer configuration is considered as part of the engineering process. For truck bodies and car carriers, this can include payload position, axle loading, rear overhang, body length and towing-system integration. For trailers, the assessment can include ATM / GTM, coupling load, axle group capacity, suspension and braking configuration, overall dimensions and the intended payload or building mass.

Truck Bodies & Trays

Custom body design, subframes, chassis extensions, body mounting, axle-load assessment and applicable VASS certification.

Custom Truck Towbars

Towbar crossmember design, coupling integration, structural assessment and applicable VSB6 / VASS certification.

2 & 3 Car Carriers

Engineering for rigid truck + trailer combinations and 3-car semi-trailers, including loading geometry, towing integration and trailer compliance.

Tiny Home Trailers

Trailer chassis design, ATM and coupling-load assessment, braking and suspension configuration, and ROVER / RAV approval support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can TTF provide engineering and certification as part of the build?

Yes. Engineering and certification can be integrated with TTF-built truck bodies, towbars, car carriers and trailers so the design, fabrication and compliance requirements are considered together.

For applicable heavy vehicle modifications, TTF can provide the required engineering assessment and VASS certification as part of the build. This can include body mounting, chassis modifications or extensions, and towbar or coupling installations where applicable.

For TTF-built trailers, we can prepare the required engineering and compliance information and manage the applicable ROVER / RAV approval process as part of project delivery.

Where required, TTF can use finite element analysis together with engineering calculations to assess custom frames, subframes, towbar crossmembers, trailer structures, mountings and other load-carrying components.
